Lotte Plaza: Market Uses Monkeys to Make Profit

Lifestyle

This shouldn’t happen in Lotte Plaza to monkeys, but it does. PETA Asia investigators visited Thailand’s coconut farms and discovered monkeys wearing heavy metal collars around their necks. They were also chained and made to climb trees and pick coconuts for Chaokoh, one of Thailand’s largest coconut milk producers. Infant pigtail macaques are one of the most sought-after targets for coconut growers. They love to nurse and learn from their mothers how they can groom, kiss, and explore their environment. The animals are taught to overcome fear and abuse, and are kept in chains at night in dirt-strewn areas. Humane harvest methods are also available.

More than 3,000 stores including Safeway, Kroger gold balloons Kroger, Target, Albertsons and Target have stopped selling Chaokoh coconut milk after being made aware of its ugly origins. However, Lotte Plaza Market, a Korean chain with stores in Florida, Maryland and New Jersey, is still selling the products.

Send a polite email letting Lotte Plaza Market Group know that you will not be purchasing anything from the chain until they stop complicity in forced monkey labor. You can use the example letter, but your words could be more important.
